For a period of time, candied haws, a traditional Chinese snack, has become increasingly popular in South Korea. Candied haws shops have opened all over the streets and alleys of South Korea, which shows that food knows no borders. So why are Koreans so obsessed with candied haws?
So Why are they so obsessed?
According to statistics, from July to August, “candied haws” has always occupied the second place in the hot search terms of frozen food and instant food. Another statistic shows that from June 29 to July 5, the number of online searches for “sugar haws” increased by 1459% compared with the same period last year. Recently, there has been a popular word in South Korea called “spicy candied haws”, which means that many Koreans popularly eat candied haws after eating Malatang.
But the popularity of candied haws also brings many problems. First of all, people who have eaten candied haws are used to throwing skewers on the street; secondly, if the syrup of candied haws accidentally drops on the ground, it will also attract flies and other insects; making it difficult to clean up on the floor. Based on the above reasons, the “no candied haws area” began to appear, and many stores put up notices asking customers not to bring candied haws into the store.
